When talking about the personalities from Câmpina, three great personalities are frequently mentioned: the one of Doctor C. I. Istrati, of painter N. Grigorescu and of scientist B.P. Haşdeu. Actually, the three were not even born in Câmpina; but they have settled here about the same time.

Doctor C. I. Istrati comes to Câmpina in 1890, builds a house on an enormous land, the future park arranged by him, having an illustrious neighbor – B. P. Haşdeu. In the same time, Istrati was a close friend of the painter N. Grigorescu.

The current Câmpina City Library is named after the illustrious scientist because he established the first public library in Câmpina in 1906 at the Boys School no. 1. The library had a book collection of 4200 volumes, resulted from donations from him and his friends – intellectuals of that time and great personalities of Romanian culture.
