‘’Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu‘’ Memorial Museum

The scientist Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu (1838-1907) bought in Câmpina, following visits to the residence of the chemist doctor C-tin Istrati, an adjacent plot of land, on which he built a spiritist temple, according to the plans of the architect Thoma Dobrescu, but inspired by the ideas received by Hasdeu - through spiritualism - from his daughter Iulia (d.1888).
Named after his wife Iulia (d.1902), the "temple of the two Iulia" has an architecture full of symbols. Originally the residence of the Hasdeu family, it fell into disrepair after being devastated during the 1916-1918 occupation. Became the property of three testamentary legatees (in 1928 one donated his share to the Popular Athenaeum "B.P.Hasdeu" from Câmpina), the building was donated to the State in 1942, and then restored (1958-1964), becoming a memorial museum.
The Museum's exhibition showcases around 300 manuscript documents, furniture, old books, paintings and personal items that belonged to the internationally renowned writer and scholar B.P. Hasdeu (1838 - 1907) and his daughter Julia Hasdeu (1869 - 1888), sea poet talent, gone prematurely. Portraits of personalities from the Hasdeu dynasty are also on display. The museum keeps the archive and part of the library of the scholar-encyclopedist B.P.Hasdeu. Services offered: guided visits, audio guide, infotouch, documentation. Those who come to visit the Museum and Castle in Câmpina are surprised to rediscover perennial values of Romanian and universal culture and spirituality.
