The building of the current seat of the Câmpina City Hall, known as "Casa cu Grifoni", was built in 1901-1902 by Gheorghe "Gogu" Ștefănescu (1867-1959), the first major oil man originally from Câmpina. The villa, built for his family, in the Beaux-Arts style fashionable at the time, was very imposing for those times, and remains today a pride of Câmpina, being probably the most beautiful town hall in the county.
Gogu Ștefănescu was a prosperous businessman in the oil field, one of the major crude oil exploiters of the area, and for a short time he became mayor of the city. His villa was also the first electrically lit building in the city, before its electrification. After 1910, she remained with his wife Eliza Ștefănescu-Văleanu, from whom the oilman had divorced, leaving for the capital where he founded one of the oil companies with domestic capital - "Subsolul Român". Eliza was dedicated to the philanthropic and educational movement, being the president of the local branch of the National Orthodox Society of Romanian Women (SONFR). During the Great War the villa was requisitioned for the headquarters of the local command of the German occupation troops and the police. In 1920, the owner sold the villa for a modest sum to the Ministry of Industry, which moved the Sondori (and Refinery) Foremen's School to it - the first of its kind in the world, which had been established in 1904 in Câmpina. Bought with the financial contribution of the mining engineer Constantin Alimănișteanu (1865-1911), the initiator of the school, the building hosted the courses of the prestigious school until 1948, after which it was managed by the petroleum high school in the city, which used it during the communist period including as interned. Falling into disrepair in the 90s, the villa was restored in an exemplary way, and since 2002 it has been part of the Câmpina City Hall's heritage, which moved its headquarters here two years later.
